Events:
Thursday, May 25:
Reception at the Museo Histórico de Ciudad Juárez,
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
The Ex-Aduana
or Old Customs House was one of the most elegant buildings in
the north of Mexico when it was built during the late nineteenth
century. Influenced by the enthusiasm for all things French so
evident in Mexico during the Porfiriato, the customs house was
the site of a famous meeting between Presidents Taft and
Porfirio Díaz. The opening reception will be at this local
landmark, hosted by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología
e Historia that now occupies the recently refurbished facility.
For those who choose not to travel to
Juárez, the staff of The Magoffin Home State Historic Site
invites attendees to visit and sample light refreshments.
Friday, May 26:
Downtown El Paso reception,
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Downtown
El Paso has recently seen many of its cultural venues revive
with new life. The evening reception will begin with drinks and
a buffet at the Camino Real Hotel, then continue with a tour of
the newly restored Plaza Theater across the street. The El Paso
Public Library will host dessert in their new addition two
blocks away past the lively Plaza de los Lagartos. Be sure to
let organizers know if you will need transportation.
